Here is a look-ahead at the construction work planned for the Public Safety Building, from April 12, 2021 to April 16, 2021

Project Overview:

Construction of a combined public safety building commenced in December 2020 on the site of the former Town Hall at 26 Bryant Street. The new building will house the staff and equipment of Fire, Police, and Dispatch departments. The new combined Public Safety Building will replace two older Town buildings: Police Station at 600 High Street (built in 1962) and the Fire Station at 436 Washington Street (built in 1930). The new building is scheduled to open in the fall of 2022.

What to expect April 12, 2021 (Monday) through April 16, 2021 (Friday):

  • The project site remains closed to the public.
  • The project team has successfully completed the installation of all 888 Geopiers (also known as Reinforced Aggregate Piers (RAPs). All associated equipment has been demobilized from the project site. The vibration monitoring systems have been removed from the site as of Friday, April 9. No excessive vibrations have been measured outside of the project side boundaries.
  • Installation of south wall alternate support piles is complete, and crews have completed the installation of the lagging walls.
  • Dewatering system is currently in operation on-site and will remain operational throughout the remainder of the excavation work.
  • Contractor, A.J. Welch, will continue excavation for the foundation footings throughout the site. (Note: Excavation for footings involves trench excavation; smaller scale than the bulk excavation of the site that occurred in January and February).
  • Beginning on Monday, April 12, crews will begin to mobilize concrete and will begin to layout the foundation footings.
  • Permanent power supply to the project site trailer has been installed by Eversource/Griffin Electric.
  • Trucks may be entering and exiting the site along Bryant Street, hauling material to the site.
  • No additional traffic impacts or pedestrian impacts are anticipated during this week.

Construction Hours:

  • Crews will be working on-site Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
