Dedham has a rich history that the Town and non-profits actively preserve and present for public consumption, with the Dedham Historic Districts Commission taking the lead. The Town is home to several historic districts and historic buildings dating back to the founding of our country.

• Fairbanks House: The oldest known wooden structure still standing in North America, the house is still owned by an association of the Fairbanks family and is now a museum open seasonally.

• Historic Districts: Dedham is home to three local historic districts, with two of those districts falling into the Dedham Village National Register Historic District.

• Mother Brook: The hand-dug canal that connects the Charles River to a tributary of the Neponset River engendered the development of mills and housing and powered the local economy for more than 300 years. 

• Cemeteries: The Department of Public Works maintain the two historic cemeteries in Town: Brookdale Cemetery and Village Cemetery.
