Post Date:07/16/2021 3:00 pm

Here is a look-ahead at the construction work planned for the Public Safety Building, from July 19, 2021 to July 23, 2021

Project Overview:

Construction of a combined public safety building commenced in December 2020 on the site of the former Town Hall at 26 Bryant Street. The new building will house the staff and equipment of Fire, Police, and Dispatch departments. The new combined Public Safety Building will replace two older Town buildings: Police Station at 600 High Street (built in 1962) and the Fire Station at 436 Washington Street (built in 1930). The new building is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2022.

The livestream video of the construction is now available on the Project website! Tune in from anywhere to watch the continued progress on the Combined Public Safety Building.

What to expect July 19, 2021 (Monday) through July 23, 2021 (Friday):

  • The project site remains closed to the public.
  • Crews will be working onsite on Saturday, July 17, 2021, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM to perform overall site clean-up/consolidation and continue foundation and anchor adjustments.
  • In anticipation of steel placement and installation, crews onsite will continue to remove all excess material from the site. Large trucks will enter and exit the site from the Washington Street/Bryant Street intersection. Please expect minor traffic delays at this intersection.
  • On Monday, July 19, the crane to be used for steel installation will be mobilized onsite and prepped for steel work.
  • Next week, crews will continue to prepare the foundation walls for damp proofing: a process that involves coating the exterior of the foundation walls to prevent moisture from entering the building interior through the concrete walls.
  • Delivery of steel is expected to continue next week. Expect periodic entrance and exit of large trucks at the project site entrance, located at the intersection of Washington Street and Bryant Street.
  • No additional traffic impacts or pedestrian impacts are anticipated during this week.

Construction Hours:

  • Crews will be working onsite on Saturday, July 17 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Trucks may be entering and exiting the site to remove material.
  • Crews will be onsite next week, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
