June 2, 2023: As of Friday, June 2, 2023, demolition of the former Fire Station Building is complete and crews have demobilized the demolition equipment from the project site.
Beginning on Monday, June 5, crews will bring new equipment to the project site to help with backfilling and compacting the excavated areas. Backfilling and compaction is expected to begin on Tuesday, June 6.
- Vibratory monitoring devices will be used to monitor vibrations caused by this phase of work to ensure levels do not exceed regulatory standards.
- Backfilling and compaction is anticipated to be completed on June 16.
May 26, 2023: Demolition of the Fire Station Tower was completed as of Friday, May 26, 2023 and crews have been clearing the site of materials and backfilling the excavated areas.

May 22, 2023: Demolition of the Fire Station Tower was slated to begin on Friday, May 19, but the schedule has been updated to Monday, May 22 through Wednesday, May 24. The Project Team has identified the following temporary impacts to the area:
- North driveway entrance to Town Hall (closest to former Fire Station) will be closed during demolition
- A number of parking spaces in the front lot at Town Hall will be blocked off during demolition. Additional parking is available behind Town Hall.
- Portions of the sidewalk remain closed, and signs have been posted to direct pedestrians to cross to the other side of the street
- One lane of Washington Street in front of the former Fire Station will be closed off and Police detail are onsite to help direct traffic around the work. Please use extreme caution in this area and expect temporary delays.
May 18, 2023: Demolition of the former Fire Station Tower will take place tomorrow and Monday (May 19 and May 22). As a result, the north driveway entrance to Town Hall (closest to the Fire Station) will be closed and the sidewalk adjacent to the demolition work will be blocked off for safety purposes. Please follow posted signs for accessing Town Hall and for crossing Washington Street to use the sidewalk on other side of the road.
May 12, 2023:
- The Project Team received the final demolition permit from the Town Building Department and will commence demolition of the former Fire Station Building as early as Monday, May 15, 2023.
- Abatement is nearing completion for the building and crews continue to take the required steps to ensure materials removed from the site are handled properly, including spraying with water to mitigate dust generation, and that they follow all regulatory requirements for disposal.
- Demolition is expected to be completed in June 2023 and may result in additional noise during normal business hours, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
April 28, 2023: Crews are beginning the next phase of work in the Public Safety Building project with abatement of the former Dedham Fire Department Headquarters building on Washington Street. Demolition of the building is anticipated to begin in early May with the interior of the building.
All abatement and demolition work will be completed in accordance with regulatory standards.
The former Fire Station building has been fenced off and access is restricted to members of the project team only and is not open to the public. During this next phase of the project, portions of the sidewalk will be closed in front of the former Fire Station building and signs have been posted to direct pedestrians to use the sidewalk on the other side of Washington Street. The north driveway entrance to Town Hall may be closed periodically to accommodate demolition work.
As of this week, the Fire Department and Dispatch team have moved into the new Public Safety Building, located at 26 Bryant Street.
