PUBLIC MEETING – PRIVATE INFILTRATION REMOVAL POLICY
Where: Dedham Middle School Auditorium
70 Whiting Avenue
When: Monday, April 1, 2019
7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Inflow & Infiltration costs the sewer customers of Dedham over $2 million per year in assessments from the MWRA for the transportation and treatment of this flow which doesn’t even belong in our sanitary system. For the past 12 years the Town has worked hard to remove Inflow & Infiltration (I/I) from our aging public sewer system and now has a good understanding on where our I/I issues exist on the public side of the sewer system. Our efforts have allowed the sewer rates to remain unchanged since 2008. In order to continue our efforts to remove I/I from the sewer system, we now must look at the privately owned sewer connections. Continuing this effort is important to our customers in order to keep their sewer rates as low as possible. Since the Town is interested in exploring the privately owned sewers (owned by property owners who have a sewer connection to the Town’s sewer system) it is important that we have this meeting with our customers to present our proposed policy since it could have a direct impact financially to property owners who are identified to have infiltration in their private sewer connections. All attendees to the meeting will become educated on what the Town has done over the past 12 years, what the proposed policy will consist of and also have an opportunity to provide feedback on the major points of the proposed policy, such as “Who will be responsible to pay for this?”
