In December 2010, the Town of Dedham earned the designation of "Green Community" by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER).Once designated by the DOER, a Green Community can apply for grants from the State that help the community implement energy conservation measures to help reduces energy costs and usage. As of 2022, Dedham is one of 280 communities across the Commonwealth that has earned this designation. 

Green Communities Grants Status

December 2010

Funds Received: $179,800

Purpose/Use: To fund the replacement of streetlights with LED technology

Status: COMPLETE

July 2014

Funds Received: $248,634

Purpose/Use: To fund conversion of streetlights to LED technology

Status: COMPLETE

July 2021

Funds Received: $31,279

Purpose/Use: To fund energy conservation measures, LED lighting, building operator certification training, and administrative assistance in municipal facilities include the DPW and Main Library

Status: COMPLETE (October 2021)
